Biopen VK Tablet

Composition

Phenoxymethyl Penicillin Potassium BP equivalent to Phenoxymethyl Penicillin BP 250 mg.

Indication

Biopen VK is indicated in the treatment and prevention of mild to moderately severe infections caused by penicillin sensitive micro-organisms: 1. Infections of the ear, nose and throat 2. Infections of the respiratory tract 3. Infections of the skin 4. Prevention of - Streptococcal infections and their complications, e.g. rheumatic fever or chorea minor, polyarthiritis, endocatditis, glomerulonephritis. - Bacterial endocarditis in patients with congenital or rheumatic heart disease before and after sugery, e.g. tonsillectomy, tooth extractions. - Pneumococcal infections in children with sickle cell anemia.

Dosage

In general children should be given Biopen VK 250 mg, 2 tablets 3 times daily. Adults should receive Biopen VK 250 mg, 2-3 tablets 3-4 times daily depending on the severity of the infection. Treatment should be continued for 3 days after the symptoms have subsided. To prevent complications, patients with streptococcal infections should take the drug at least 10 days.
